Cape gooseberry, also known by its scientific name, Physalis, is a round, bright orange fruit, whose size varies from 1.5 to 2.5 cm (0.5 to 1 inches) in diameter. The fruit is covered by thin non-edible leaves, and it has a large number of very small edible seeds on the inside. The flavor is slightly sweet and sour.
Remove its leaves and wash before consuming. Cape gooseberries can be consumed fresh, or they can be used as a main ingredient in salads, juices, sauces, desserts, cakes, cocktails, and covered in chocolate as a snack. Cape gooseberries are also an ideal fruit for preparing jams. As long as the fruit holds its pretty orange color, is suitable to be consumed. Green cape gooseberries ripen best if left at room temperature for several days
